Dance Events Around Wrexham and Cheshire

I am discontinuing the monthly page at the end of this year, too many of the clubs are cancelling events and not informing me and it reflects badly on me. I receive nothing for this service, I do it to promote more dancing in this area and as such am not prepared to take stick for things that are not my fault. So I will continue to post the regular events and try to publish contact information where I have it. If you know of any event that I can promote please inform me, if I can get more people dancing then I will be happy.

This page hopefully will grow to be a useful resource, I know of no other web page that gives information on All Dance venues in this area. I will try to keep it as accurate as possible but anyone finding errors or omissions please inform me. I accept no responsibility for any errors or omissions here, although any complaints will be passed on. Come and say hello by all means or just enjoy the fun.

We are tango Gresford. Unfortunately we no longer hold regular Practicas and we will be out of the country until April. We do however give private lessons at very reasonable rates. Contact me later in the year if you are interested.

Most of what we do is couple dancing, and very close hold. We have no issues with age at either end, but if you want a younger crowd you might want to try Beckie at Aspirations. Again though I think she does street dance. Have you thought of Zumba? There is quite a choice and you are not really specific enough, do you want, line dance, sequence dance, ballroom, tap, latin, stage dancing?
If you still cannot find what you want try contacting us by phone, Viv can put you in touch with someone whatever you want to do.

Hi! I’m 15 and want to start dancing (but not street or anything like that). I’ve looked everywhere on the web and cant find any clubs for people my age. Do you know anywhere?? 🙂

  6. Spot on with this write-up, I actually think this website needs rather more consideration. I’ll probably be once more to read rather more, thanks for that info.

  7. Hi, could you add a listing please for Wednesday Nights at The Memorial Hall, Wrexham. DanceJive french Jive classes. 7:45-10:30.

    Thanks, Neil

Oh! but they do complain about the beer prices, often they try to smuggle in their own drinks. But I agree we either pay the price or the places go bust, or even (how dare they) have discos to keep afloat.

The main reason their are so few youngsters is because when they get to a venue half the dancers are dead already. Usually shuffling around in some half learned sequence dance danced very badly. Another reason is the lack of aspiration of the organisers. The fees charged are usually far to low resulting in the venues going bust. The same people who pull faces at suggestion to up prices are ususally to be found in late registration smart cars and think nothing of the beer prices. I’ve just spent half the evening looking for a venue…
I’m 73 and me and my partner still zap around…. Time to wake up guys….

  10. I saw the heading of this blog post – Dance Events Around Wrexham and Cheshire | The life of a frustrated Milonguero – while I was searching on the internet a few minutes ago. Would you mind if I put a link back to https://tangogales.wordpress.com/dance-events-in-our-area/ on my site?

  11. This is the perfect blog for anyone who wants to know about this topic. You know so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that I really would want…HaHa). You definitely put a new spin on a subject thats been written about for years. Great stuff, just great!

    Hi Ali,
nice to hear from you again, I am not sure what the negative comments you refer to are, but thanks for your wishes.
We will be in Buenos Aires about mid May and it would be great to meet up again.
My own tango scene is coming on great (I do not know about Chester as we are totally out of contact) watch the next blog for news of our recent events>

Hi Bob! sorry to hear you were getting some negative feedback for the blog page- i for one found it very useful- i might not have met up with you guys if it hadn’t been for your page! hope all is good back in the UK- maybe spring is finally coming….i’ve ended up living in Argetina for a while- i didnt really like Guatemala- so if you’re coming back to BA would be lovely to meet up at a milonga (i’m not living in BA, but in La Plata an hour away- which by the way now has some very good tango- only in the last 5 years or so but now 4 or 5 milongas a week- but i have good friends in BA and go dancing there too. Anyway, keep up the good blog work! hi to Viv too, happy dancing!

  16. This is a extremely beneficial read for me, Must admit you’re a single of the greatest bloggers I ever saw. Thanks for posting this informative article.

  17. ali

Thanks for the information- don’t know the area very well so not sure how far places are + will be relying on public transport and my sister while there( i no longer live in the
UK so no car), but seems like Gobowen and Chester are the possibilities- I’ll be back in a week so i’ll drop you a mail and see if anything else happening, all the best Ali

  18. tangobob

Tango dancers are few in Wrexham, I think there is only one other couple. If you look on the events page you will see what tango there is close by. Gobowen is only a quarter of an hour away, there is a practica there on wednesdays. Depending on how far you are willing to travel depends how much you can do. There is tango in Wilmslow Manchester Shrewsbury, and now Warrington (Next post). All involve travel I’m afraid. Drop me a line when you are here and I will try and help you more.

  19. ali

hi- loved reading your blog! am often a frustrated milonguera looking for even a hint of tango in far-flung places. I’m going to be in Wrexham for 3 months from the end of Oct and as far as i can tell there isn’t Tango directly in Wrexham, but is some Mondays in Chester- not sure if any other nights too? wonder if you could give me some more information- are there any other Tango dancers in Wrexham or just yourselves? thanks, all the best, ali

  20. Hi: Can you publish this info in your blog please (Thank you in advance):

TANGO AS A NEW THERAPY IN PALLIATIVE CARE

Psychologists and physical therapists believe learning tango can help people suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, depression and couples breakdown.

Studies made in Washington University (EUA), Favaloro Foundation (Arg), University of Rochester Medical Centre, Massachusetts Institute and McGill University (EUA), University of New England (AU) among others demonstrated that tango can help people fight Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, anxiety, depression and social phobias, to prevent physiological deficiencies and to delay the natural process of ageing, maintain a healthy brain in old age and overpass conflicts and fears.

An now, the first Tango Therapy Encounter for EU will be in Cardiff, Wales.
With the participation of Dott. Massimo Habib, Director of Tango Therapy Italy, the authors of the book “An approach to Tango Therapy” and directors of Tango Therapy UK: Karen Woodley and Martin Sotelano, the presentation of the short films “Into your Arms” directed by Ruth Pethybridge, Dance artist and Project Manager for Oxford Youth Dance among others, regarding tango as a powerful and healing dance and “To Dance Again: Parkinson’s Meet Tango” produced by the St. Louis Home Education (EUA) regarding a study realized by Gammon Earhart, PhD, Pt, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy, Anatomy and Neurobiology at Neurology Washington University, among others activities and workshops.

The encounter is organized by Tango Therapy UK and the International Association of Tango Therapy Therapists, and will be in the Canton Labour Club in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday 31st of October.

    Hi Anna
I am afraid most of the dances are for, shall I say, the more mature. We have been attending some of these for nearly fifteen years, and still they say “nice to see some young people here”
If you are at all interested in anyyou would be more than welcome, I am sure we could put you up, and you could drop the average age to about half.

  23. I’m jealous you have so many dance opportunities, shame they are all a long drive from Bangor.

Please comment, I love to hear your views.
